Just a few years ago we began investigating the College Level Examination Program tests given by the College Boards organization to see if we could use these tests to help our children get ahead in their preparation for college. We were astounded to learn that over 3,000 colleges and universities now accept CLEPs!
Our daughters, Katie and Rebekah used these exams to gain a number of college credits that they transferred into college at a fraction of the price!
Additionally, they were able to "test out" of Introductory Sociology and Introductory Psychology and College Algebra.
So what? (You may ask.) Why would you want your homeschooler to test out of college courses?
Well, we believe that students who are diligent in their studies at home can get just as much out of these entry-level courses as students who take them in a standard community college or introductory college-level class. It's a lot less expensive doing it this way, and the students can take advantage of the home-based environment for learning basic college courses this way.
For the past few years, we have been teaching Natural Science across the U.S. We have seen students who have taken our advice on how to study for this exam, using our notes and other recommended materials, and have passed.
In 2004, we taught the Natural Science CLEP(tm) material to twenty-five students in Michigan. Many of them passed the Natural Science CLEP(tm) exam in just a matter of a few weeks study after our class. That class was based on the same material in these notes!
